Federal judge Owen Panner orders a number of closed timber operations on federal land to immediately reopen. David Noble, owner of South Bay Timber, and one of the lawsuit's plaintifs, tells KMED the judge issued the 10-day restraining order against the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, and it applies nationwide. The federal government recently ordered a number of logging companies operating on federal land to shut down operations due to the federal government shut down. Timber companies argued in court today (10-17) that the federal government didn't have the authority to close down operations, unless direct federal supervision of the operations was needed.
