BIG WINS FOR SAME-SEX MARRIAGE
President says he won't force churches to conduct gay marriages. (How big of him) He will continue to force the contraceptive issue. The fight isn't for gay marriage, but rather restoration of religious rights. If gay marriage supporters truly believe in "rights", they'll respect and protect religious rights with which they disagree.
Some say the gay marriage issue is just another variation on basic civil rights. At first glance, it would be easy to think so. While same sex marriage does increase individual "freedom", meanwhile the government is reducing religious "freedom". With official same sex marriage will come the requirement that individuals who don't believe this is proper will be forced by "Caesar" to accept, and celebrate the institution.
Look for this to open a Pandora's box of government forcing "acceptance and love". Freedom to associate means nothing without the freedom to not associate/agree. The trashing of the cherished right to not associate/agree is what I fear more than Adam and Steve marrying. Were this merely the way government treated same sex citizenry, well that's one thing. We all know that this ultimately is much more.
One more thought - Once you change the rules of an ancient institution to go same-sex, logically nothing prevents further changes to the formula. Polygamy, same-family, interspecies marriage. If all it's about is "recognizing your love", all bets are off.
