Medford's Fire Chief has retired. Chief Dave Bierwiler announced his retirement on Friday, and said he couldn't disclose the reasons for his sudden departure from the department. Bierwiler has served as fire chief for the past 23 years, and said he has personal reasons for wanting to step down. Deputy Fire Chief Gordon Sletmoe has temporarily taken over as acting chief. Sletmoe, a 21-year veteran of the department, hasn't said whether he will seek the job permanently.
