Federal budget cuts are threatening to cut snowplow crews responsible for plowing the roads that are buried at Crater Lake National Park. The park has to cut five percent from it's $5 million budget due to the sequester, and one area that is being looked at is snowplowing. Monitoring natural resources, such as wildlife populations, may also be reduced, along with summer ranger talks and tours. Plowing Rim Drive and the North Entrance Road usually starts in May. No final decisions have been made yet.
