6-15-17: GRANTS PASS MAY ABANDON RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA SALES TAX.

THE CITY OF GRANTS PASS, IS LOOKING TO ROLL BACK ON ITS 10% SALES TAX ON RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA, UNDER THE IDEA THAT THE TAX MAY NOT BE 100% LEGAL. THE TAX WAS APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL IN 2014, BEFORE THE PASSAGE OF MEASURE 91. AFTER WHICH, THE LEGISLATURE IMPOSED A 17% TAX ON RECREATIONAL SALES, WITH A PROVISION THAT CITIES CAN CHARGE AN ADDITIONAL 3%. THE LAW ALSO SAYS THAT VOTERS MUST APPROVE ANY LOCAL TAX ON THE SUBSTANCE.
