GOVENOR JOHN KITZHABER’S GIRLFRIEND CYLVIA HAYES WAS ACCUSED OF RECEIVING MORE THAN 200-THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR HER CONSULTING BUSINESS AS A RESULT OF INFLUENCE BECAUSE OF HER CONNECTION TO THE GOVERNOR. KITZHABER SAID THERE WAS NO WRONGDOING, BUT HE RESIGNED IN FEBRUARY 2015 SAYING THE ALLEGATIONS WERE CAUSING TOO MUCH OF A DISTRACTION. THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING THE INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED MISUSE OF THEIR POSITIONS FOR THEIR PERSONAL BENEFIT HAS ENDED AND NO CRIMINAL CHARGES WILL BE FILED. THE INVESTIGATION INCLUDED THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT’S CRIMINAL DIVISION, THE FBI AND THE IRS.
