THE OREGON LEGISLATURE HAS PASSED KAYLEE’S LAW. IT WAS NAMED AFTER KAYLEE SAWYER WHO WAS KILLED BY A CAMPUS SECURITY OFFICER AT CENTRAL OREGON COMMUNITY COLLEGE. REPRESENTATIVE JEFF BARKER SAYS IT PREVENTS CAMPUS SECURITY VEHICLES FROM LOOKING LIKE POLICE CARS.

CAMPUS SECURITY WORKERS MUST ALSO UNDERGO BACKGROUND CHECKS AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMS…AND IF THEY FIND EVIDENCE OF A CRIME THEY’RE REQUIRED TO CALL POLICE AND TURNOVER ANY EVIDENCE THEY FIND. THE SUSPECT IN SAWYER’S KILLING, EDWIN LARA, HAS RECEIVED TWO LIFE SENTENCES FOR HER MURDER.
